Why should you be able to hold your breath?

  • Swimming underwater is fun

  • The ability to hold your breath for a long period of time is a much sought-after skill. Maybe you want to last longer underwater while diving or surfing, or maybe you’re just looking for an impressive party trick. Whatever the reason, it is actually surprisingly easy to increase the amount of time you can go without breathing, provided you use the right training techniques and follow adequate safety precautions.

  • Great article. I love snorkeling, favorite spot is snorkeling in maui, and learning to hold your breath is awesome. It’s also great for helping with surfing since you’ll never know when you will get pounded.

    • Remember not to use the hyperventilation techniques in water since they can cause shallow water blackouts. For snorkling look into freediving techniques 🙂
